Lisa asks…
Is it possible/okay to switch MOS while in the DEP?
In my recruiters office I signed up for an imagery analyst.
However, because my eyes are horrible, I was not able to get that job. So at MEPS, I chose 25N.
I thought it would be a computer/network support job, it is seems to be more tactical (which is something I was not looking for).
I don’t want to be difficult or a nuisance to my recruiter, but I don’t think I would enjoy this job after doing more research on it. My ship out date is in August (so I’m currently in the DEP). Would it be ok or possible to select a different MOS?
Ray, I’m not going off of that website completely. I’m getting some of this info from people who are actually IN THE MOS.
I think the best info comes from the ones who are actually in the job.

Free PC Help staff answers:
You can request a change in MOS up and until you ship out. You can back out at any time up until that date. You should get the job you want before actually beginning your contract. Once you’ve shipped out, you should fulfill your obligation. If you find that the job is not what you thought it was, there are ways to change your MOS while in the service but it is not as easy.

Mandy asks…
Is there a government program that pays for a disabled person’s training in a job they are able to do?
There is a woman on disability. She wants to get training in a college for working with computers, because it is a job she can do, with her limited physical abilities.——-But she is on disability and doesn’t want to risk losing the monthly check before she gets and completes training necessary to get a computer job (network administrator job, or tech support).
Is there any such govt. program that will pay for her training for a new job that she is capable of doing with her disability? Will it pay, and still allow her to keep recieving her monthly disability check?—————-She had been a nurse, but suffered a couple of shattered vertebrae in her neck, and then soon after got cancer. The neck injury left her unable to perform nurse duties, even after treatment the Doctor said she couldn’t work. The cancer treatment caused a good deal of nerve damage, also. This makes a driving job extremely unwise.

Your friend needs to contact her local area
Vocational Rehabilitation Office. She needs to be evaluated and see what they can do to help her. Yes, she would most
definitely stay on her monthly income until she completed a program of training/education and secured a paying position.
She could if she wanted to work p/t at a new job and not lose any money of her disability…She would only be allowed to make up to a certain dollar amount of money before they would “cut” her off on her own. She has to be careful of that until she is ready to go “solo” with new employment.
Also she needs to assess whether or not she can go off of her Medicare benefits. Since this is a government system I think the amount she can earn is about $600-800 a month.
She needs to call social security and ask many of these questions. Also get the assessment from voc rehab.
Best Wishes….
P.S. Don’t be afraid to call soc sec….they are there to help
her.
