Ken asks…

Do employers prefer traditional colleges vs. Phoenix?

I’ve been trying to decide between getting my associates degree at a traditional community college or going through University of Phoenix. I plan on going for something that’s related to IT computer support or network specialist. But I’m worried that an employer may not take a degree from an online university as serious as one from a more traditional school.

What’s your thoughts on it?

Free PC Help staff answers:

Go to community college. There is nothing wrong with community college.

U of Phoenix is a diploma mill. The degrees aren’t well respected and if you decided to transfer or go on to a higher degree, there is a very good chance your credits will not be accepted.

There are some decent online programs, its just that U of Phoenix isn’t one of them. When considering an online college, check it out on wikipedia. Schools are either for profit or not for profit. For profit = bad school. U of Phoenix is for profit, Harvard, Yale, NYU, and all state universities are not for profit.
